On a historic night in London, the 70th edition of the Ballon d’Or crowned England striker Harry Kane and Spain’s Alexia Putellas, reaffirming the importance of consistency, achievements and individual journeys in international football.

World football celebrated its newest stars on Monday, 26 October.

Harry Kane, striker for Bayern Munich and the England national team, claimed his first Ballon d’Or, ending a 25-year wait for an English winner in the men’s category.

In the women’s category, Alexia Putellas returned to the top, claiming the prestigious trophy for the third time in her career.

Held in London for the first time, the ceremony brought together some of the biggest names in international football to celebrate the season’s outstanding performers.

Kane’s victory marks a milestone in a career built on consistency and results.

At 33, the striker arrived at the ceremony following a remarkable season, scoring 61 goals in 51 appearances for Bayern Munich, alongside six goals for England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

His performances contributed to Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal triumphs, as well as England’s run to the World Cup semi-finals.

Kane became the first English player to win the Ballon d’Or since Michael Owen in 2001.

In women’s football, Alexia Putellas further cemented her place among the sport’s greatest figures. The Spanish midfielder claimed her third individual trophy following a title-winning season with Barcelona, before her move to London City Lionesses.

The Ballon d’Or is more than a sporting award.

As football becomes increasingly connected to the entertainment industry, global brands and international business, individual recognition also enhances the international profiles of players and clubs.

Kane’s achievement highlights a career defined by perseverance and the ability to deliver consistently at the highest level over the years.

Putellas’ third title, meanwhile, reinforces the growing significance of women’s football on the international sporting stage.

On a night dedicated to football’s biggest stars, two different journeys reached the same destination: global recognition.
