Portuguese charm has once again captivated the world. At the latest World Travel Awards 2025 gala — often dubbed the “Oscars of Tourism” — Portugal reaffirmed its global prominence, taking home some of the night’s most coveted prizes and solidifying its position as Europe’s leading travel destination.

Among the major highlights was the city of Porto, crowned “Europe’s Leading Destination”. The distinction celebrates not only Porto’s architectural beauty and historical heritage but also the way the city has reinvented itself — balancing tradition and modernity with a cultural, gastronomic, and hospitality scene of international calibre.

Another standout moment was the victory of the Passadiços do Paiva, in Arouca, which won the title of “Europe’s Leading Adventure Tourism Destination”. This site, now an icon of ecotourism, offers a unique experience amidst nature, attracting travellers seeking both tranquillity and adrenaline in equal measure.

Meanwhile, Lisbon, the Portuguese capital, shone as Europe’s Leading City Break Destination, reinforcing its role as one of the continent’s most vibrant cities — perfect for an unforgettable weekend filled with viewpoints, art, gastronomy, and the irresistible Mediterranean atmosphere.

These achievements reinforce a narrative that has been taking shape in recent years: Portugal is more than a tourist destination; it is a lifestyle experience — defined by authenticity, aesthetics, and the way the country preserves its history while embracing the future.

Beyond tourism, these recognitions symbolise the sophistication and quality of Portuguese hospitality, now among the most admired in the world — turning the nation into a true global case study in lifestyle and contemporary culture.
