On the evening of 1 December 2025, at the historic Royal Albert Hall in London, Anok Yai was officially awarded “Model of the Year 2025” by the British Fashion Council — one of the industry’s most prestigious honours.
The choice came as no surprise to those who have followed her career: in recent years, Anok has established herself as one of the most in-demand models in the world — starring in campaigns, fronting editorials, walking for iconic maisons and expanding the conversation around representation and diversity in fashion.
The dress, the carpet, and the symbolism
To step onto the stage and receive the award, Anok wore a custom creation by designer Dilara Findikoglu — a white and cream corseted gown with a mermaid silhouette, luxurious fabrics such as satin and velvet, and a dramatic train that evoked classic elegance with a contemporary edge.
Her look for the night reinforces her unique style — a blend of sophistication, vintage references and modern attitude — and serves as a statement: Anok is not there merely to walk the runway, but to redefine beauty standards and symbolic power in global fashion.
A voice that echoes beyond the catwalk
In her acceptance speech, Anok Yai made a point of honouring her roots — born in Egypt, the daughter of South Sudanese parents and raised in the United States — dedicating the award to everyone who sees their story reflected in hers. “Being named Model of the Year is a great honour… this award is for all those who have ever seen their story in mine,” she said.
For her, the recognition is not only personal — it is symbolic. It represents genuine progress for diversity in fashion, especially for Black women, historically underrepresented on runways, magazine covers and major campaigns.
Receiving “Model of the Year” means more than a trophy — it is a sign of global influence. Over the past year, Anok has walked for brands such as Ferragamo, Hugo Boss, Saint Laurent and Saint Laurent, as well as starring in major campaigns and influential magazine covers, cementing her status as a contemporary icon.
